You would think that as much as Nicki Minaj has TOUTED the ‘barbie’ moniker, she would have done SOMETHING with Aqua’s 1997 #1 hit, ‘Barbie Girl’, right? Well the RIGHT mix has not come along for the ‘Queen’ rapper to jump on until NOW! For the ‘Barbie’ soundtrack, Nicki has linked with Aqua and Ice Spice for a 2023 COLLABORATION!
The project includes Ava Max, Charli XCX, Dominic Fike, Dua Lipa, Fifty Fifty, Gayle, Haim, Ice Spice, Kali, Karol G, Khalid, The Kid Laroi, Lizzo, Nicki Minaj, PinkPantheress, Ryan Gosling, and Tame Impala. All these acts together on one soundtrack is exciting enough, but there’s something that makes it even cooler: Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice, and Aqua are collaborating for a new version of the iconic song “Barbie Girl.” It’s not the first crossover between Minaj and Spice; they recently collaborated on “Princess Diana.”
Nicki Minaj opens up about why she accepted Ice Spice & Riot’s offer to be on “Barbie World” from the #Barbie soundtrack:
“This is the first time that someone had put this sample in a way that didn’t make me uncomfortable or gimmicky…I figured out that it needed to be a beat that would still give Barbie & Nicki.”
