The AXE has finally come down. The ‘Sherri Show’ helmed by comedian/actress Sherri Shepherd has been CANCELED after 4 seasons!
Debmar-Mercury announced that ‘Sherri’ will conclude after its current fourth season, with final episodes airing this fall following clearances through the 2025-2026 TV season. Co-presidents Ira Bernstein and Mort Marcus stressed the decision stems from shifts in daytime television, not the show’s quality or Shepherd’s talent, and they plan to seek new platforms for it.
This decision is driven by the evolving daytime television landscape and does not reflect on the strength of the show, its production – which has found strong creative momentum this season – or the incredibly talented Sherri Shepherd,” Debmar-Mercury co-presidents Ira Bernstein and Mort Marcus said in a joint statement. “We believe in this show and in Sherri and intend to explore alternatives for it on other platforms.”
‘Sherri’ replaced the highly popular and ‘The Wendy Williams Show’ in 2022 amid her health decline.
I am going to be so real about this. All the talk of ‘shifting daytime viewership’ and etc., sounds like great TV p.r. in situations like this. But let’s be real. I think ill-gotten things often go away quickly. The way the show was STRIPPED from Wendy Williams and simply handed over to Sherri never sat right with me. At one point they handed over the time slot, the set and even Wendy’s whole crew and social media platform to Sherri with little to no change. And it seemed that the SWITCH was not mutual. Sherri who once showed gratitude to Wendy went on to almost mock her existence. It was like Debnar-Mercury thought they could simply switch one black woman with another, and the viewers would simply fall in line. That didn’t happen.
The SPARK that Wendy had did not follow. I honestly gave the show a chance, but it never resonated with me and I don’t think the fans followed. I think Debmar-Mercury kept the show around as long as it did because they didn’t want to have egg on their face for their debacle. Sherri is a GREAT host but lacked the ‘IT’ factor to helm a show SOLO and bring in the masses like Wendy did.
We wish Sherri Shepherd the beat….
