At the 30th anniversary Roots Picnic in Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park, Jay-Z headlined with The Roots and kicked off his set rapping lines like ‘A rapper can’t be my opp’ and twisting Drake’s ‘the jig is up’ from the recent ICEMAN album into a sharp rebuttal about charts, publishing, and contracts.
Drake’s chart-topping ICEMAN included shots at Jay-Z, referencing the old ‘$500K or dinner’ debate and his ‘Jigga’ nickname, while other tracks questioned the mogul’s sway. Jay-Z also nodded to past tensions with Dame Dash, Kanye West, and Nicki Minaj.
“That lady back on that stuff, she sounds like she’s in love with ‘em / Her Ken can’t even… pick they kid…..enough of them / A rapper can’t be my opp, I got maga republicans”
