
After huge success out the gate, Netflix’s breakout hit, A Different World’ has been OFFICIALLY renewed for season 2!!!
A Different World Season 1 launched on Sept. 24 with honors, making the Netflix English TV Top 10 list. “It’s because of our incredible fans that we’ve received such a swift Season 2 pickup! You all have watched, rewatched, posted about, created content around, and hosted events for our show. Your support, passion, and love mean the absolute world,” Pride says. “From the passionate pleas for their favorite ’ships to feeling seen by a particular character to uncovering well-laid Easter eggs, the conversations fans have been having are so rich and joyful. And I love that audiences are watching it together — parents with children, college friends, and extended family — all enjoying it in community.”
Executive producer and director Debbie Allen can’t wait for the next chapter of A Different World. “Yay! Hallelujah! The people and Netflix have spoken. A Different World brought something everybody needed: joy, romance, relevance, authenticity, and HEART,” she says. “Thank you for getting us into the Top 10 worldwide! And now, gear up! We’re coming back at you with Season 2!”
Looking ahead, Pride promises “more Hillman, more college life, more friendship, more romance, more Black joy, and more HBCU greatness” in A Different World Season 2. You can also expect answers to some of your most burning questions following Deborah Wayne’s (Maleah Joi Moon) first year at Hillman. “Of course, we left Season 1 with quite a few cliffhangers that we must address in Season 2,” says Pride.

After transformative summers, Deborah and her Hillman classmates return to campus for sophomore year with a “new year, new me” attitude, only to find themselves faced with past decisions, uncertain futures, new loves and friendships, and deeper questions of purpose … all while, of course, getting themselves into a whole lot of new mess.
